This is the second Sense unit I have purchased. My original was for myself in 2017 to investigate flickering lights in the house. Turned out I have a poor neutral connection at the house service entrance. I bought this second unit as a gift for a friend that loves seeing real time energy usage as much as I do. There are some devices that Sense still is not able to detect – even after years of use. But the major appliances are all there after a couple of months.

The Sense Flex Home Energy Monitor has proven to be an invaluable tool for monitoring and managing my home’s power usage. Installation was surprisingly easy, and the step-by-step guidance provided made the process straightforward. I specifically purchased this monitor to keep tabs on the power usage in a tenant’s basement apartment, which is connected to my main meter through a sub-panel. The real-time insights provided by the Sense Flex allow me to ensure that the power consumption remains reasonable and in line with expectations.Having the ability to track energy usage not only provides peace of mind but also allows for fair and accurate adjustments, such as rent charges, if power consumption becomes unusually high. The device’s user-friendly interface and the detailed breakdown of energy usage make it a valuable investment for anyone looking to have better control and understanding of their home’s power consumption. Overall, the Sense Flex Home Energy Monitor offers a convenient and effective solution for keeping power costs in check.

I was going bonkers trying to figure out what was drawing so much power. I discovered my AC unit was over sized. Luckily my system can be switched from 3ton to 2 ton. My consumption was 3700 watts while running in 3 Ton. My Condo is only 1200 sq ft so 2 ton is acceptable. I switched the system to 2 ton mode and went from around 3000 watts to around 1500 watts. This is a huge difference. I have seen no difference in the systems ability to keep the temperature just the way I like it. I then went through each breaker turning all off. Then one on at a time to discover where i was spending money. I am super impressed and extremely happy with my purchase. I bought the solar kit so I could use the second set of cables to monitor my AC. This has been very educational and I feel so much wiser. As a side note I use a portable AC unit in my office to keep it extra cool. I was skeptical of the energy consumption the manufacture claimed. But it takes less power to keep that room super cool than I could have ever imagined. Less than 100 watts when it is running. It would cost less to have these in each room when compared to a heat pump. I will be giving that company a 2 thumbs up in my next review!

The Sense monitor is an amazing device. Having used a live power monitor for 10+ years (the Current Cost EnvIR), Sense takes this to the next level. Highly accurate – to the point where it can “see” the microwave door opening because the light comes on, even with the device not running.Because it ties into the electrical panel using 2 breaker slots, it monitors L1 and L2 voltage and can detect and report power spikes, floating neutral and motor stall conditions using some of the Sense Labs features. It uses AI to learn and associate devices in your home to their detected electrical “signatures”, and has learned the majority of frequently-used devices in mu house in the first 30 days.I also added several compatible “smart plugs” that support energy monitoring to monitor specific devices even more accurately and to control them from within the app.It can be configured to warn you if a sump pump hasn’t run recently (if expected to run), or whether you may have left the oven on. So it can add to home safety in addition to energy monitoring and identifying power saving opportunities.Highly recommended!

I am an Electrician and decided to buy this monitor for my home with solar. I hardly write reviews but I am rather impressed with this monitor. First off, it’s extremely easy to install. It took me about 15min. However this is what I do for a living so I would say 30min to 1 hour install time if you’re not used to being in an electrical panel. If you’re handy with tools you can handle the install. If you’re not handy at all I would recommend getting someone to install it. You do have to go into the main electrical panel and there are dangers if you have no clue about Electricity. The second point I wanted to make, This unit measures the voltage as well as current. This makes the unit more accurate and I can attest to this. My inverter was only a few watts off of what Sense was reading. The sense uses the current sensors and measures the voltage. The formula for Watts is Voltage multiplied by current. I know some cheaper models will not measure voltage and it just assumes it’s 240V, your Voltage can vary + or – 10 volts or more. Measuring the actual voltage makes it much more accurate. All in all I think it’s a good unit and if you’re on the fence I would recommend it. The only thing I do not like about the sense is it would be nice to have more ports for more current sensors. For most people this unit does the Job. Thanks.

My power bill was absolutely ridiculous and I couldn’t figure out why or what was using so much power. I had recently installed a Google Nest thermostat and at first there wasn’t an issue. Months later though my power bill sky rocketed to over $300/month and our daily routines hadn’t changed. That’s when I installed the sense monitor. I needed to find out what was using so much power. It took about a week before this system was able to detect and identify the source of the problem. It was the furnace! I have an interesting air handling setup in my house where the majority of heating and cooling is handled by a heat pump and in emergency conditions the furnace is used as a last resort. The stupid smart thermostat was running the furnace and the heat pump all day long to keep the house warm.Removed the smart thermostat and swapped it back over to the old dumb thermostat and viola. Our daily power consumption dropped from 300kw a day to 75kw.Highly recommend installing this device if you need to identify usage issues like these or you want to get a more accurate gauge on what devices in your home you need to possibly upgrade for more efficient ones or unplug when not using.I’m overly thankful for this device and so is my wallet.

While I was skeptical about spending the money on something like this, it did give me exactly the info I wanted.I recently upgrade my home’s AC to one of the variable speed unit and was curious as to its energy usage (and how it runs) and wanted to be able to track my whole home’s consumption live to see where I was using electricity for the purposes of seeing if my current generator is enough or if I need to get something with more power to run my home in an emergency situation. (And with this I’m learning we could get by with what I already have – saving me thousands.)I do have a few minor gripes that I’m hoping will be improved on in the future, but nothing that impacted my experience. Smaller clamps would be helpful, and being able to monitor more than just two circuits would be nice. Also, the integration with Hue and smart outlets is a very handy feature that helps even further identify where your energy is going to.

We got it to figure out why our electric bill is so high. Showed the electric Co our usage, and it convinced them to change our meter! It is still learning and identifying devices but it is super smart with little intervention. It suggests installing a seperate 15 amp breaker- didn’t know that till I got instructions. Also I got one that was names Solar, even tho I ordered one for a split service with 2 220 panels and needed tech support to figure out how to connect it. Instructions did not help so i thought the wrong one was delivered. Turns out the second panel connects to the solar port… doesn’t make that intuitive.

I put this in a weekend home and would not live without it now. I can see remotely what I left on or what is starting to fail. Actually, it’s a little too accurate as now I keep an eye on the pattern my fridge is making and it seems to have a hick-up ever now and then with it’s current draw. It does take a few weeks for it to pick up on the devices but I’m only at this house on the weekend so that may be the issue.

The box setup is super easy once installed. It immediately began tracking power usage. As it learns, you get more accurate use by each source. I emailed the company regarding install instructions and got a reply very quickly. Their support was great and answered all my questions.
